Schools
We work closely with schools, helping them to understand the employment and career opportunities within the New Zealand and international fashion industry.
We provide opportunities for students to come and visit NZFT and take part in Gateway, Work Choice and STAR Programmes.
Welcome to NZFT for Schools

Careers and Opportunities
The numbers of younger students seeking skills for employment in the fashion and sewn products industries is growing.
High school students, their teachers, and their careers advisers increasingly understand that the fashion and clothing industry is a viable, growing and exciting career option.
In 2010 NZ Fashion Tech visited over sixty different schools meeting students, careers advisors and technical teachers to up-date them with current changes to the fashion and clothing industries and the career options open to new entrants.
School Leavers Without Qualifications
At the present time, mainstream high school education in New Zealand results in more than 20% of learners graduating with no, or very few qualifications or skills.
NZ Fashion Tech services the needs of these students and industry by:
- Providing smaller classes with a strong practical industry focus
- Personalised instruction
- Accelerated learning techniques
- Integration of capability skills
(communication, numeracy, literacy, life skills etc).
Our Philosophy to Learning
The shorter vocational programmes also mean students can enter and exit at their capability levels rather than be precluded from a 3 year degree programme.
Classrooms are designed to replicate the workplace and the gradual introduction of workplace skills, behaviours and work experience helps to ease the transition into, and fitness for, employment for all these students
External Evaluation Review NZQA
New Zealand Qualifications Authority awarded us the highest possible ranking in November 2010 as a result of their latest EER (External Evaluation Review). Here are some quotes taken from the executive summary.
