Working together with Schools

Our students are given the best opportunities to succeed and start their career in fashion. NZ Fashion Tech has very high qualification and completion rates. Our programme completion rates are over 90%, and qualification achievement over 80%.

Working With Schools

NZ Fashion Tech is working strategically with schools, careers advisors and parents around the country to inform them of the growth of desirable career options available for students within the sewn products industries.

Our Enrolment and School Liaison Team are speaking at teachers’ conferences, visiting schools, attending and presenting at school careers evenings and hosting school student visits to NZ Fashion Tech.

Careers and Opportunities

The numbers of younger students seeking skills for employment in the fashion and sewn products industries is growing.

High school students, their teachers, and their careers advisers increasingly understand that the fashion and clothing industry is a viable, growing and exciting career option.

Each year NZ Fashion Tech visit over sixty different schools (primarily in the greater Auckland and Welligton regions, but also across the country) meeting students, parents, careers advisors and technical teachers to keep them up to date with current changes to the fashion and clothing industries and the career options open to new entrants.

School Leavers

School leavers can enter into our foundation programme, Certificate in Fashion Technology - Level 3, straight from school. This programme gives them all the skills they need in garment construction and forms part of the entry criteria to move up into the higher level programmes: Certificate in Pattern Design - Level 4 and Diploma in Fashion Technology - level 5.

NZ Fashion Tech services the needs of these students and industry by:

  • Providing smaller classes with a strong practical industry focus.
  • Personalised instruction
  • Accelerated learning techniques
  • Integration of capability skills (communication, numeracy, literacy, life skills etc).

Our Philosophy to Learning

Our vocational programmes mean students can enter and exit at their capability levels rather than be precluded from a 3 year degree programme.

Classrooms are designed to replicate the workplace and the gradual introduction of workplace skills, behaviours and work experience helps to ease the transition into, and fitness for, employment for all these students
