We work closely with schools, helping them to understand the employment and career opportunities within the New Zealand and international fashion industry.

We provide opportunities for students to come and visit NZFT and take part in Gateway, Work Choice and STAR Programmes.

NZ Fashion Tech can provide schools with assistance for Gateway students interested in a career in the fashion industry and the Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource - STAR - which provides additional funds to all state secondary schools with year 11-13 students.

NZ Fashion Tech can provide schools with help for Gateway students interested in a career in the fashion industry.

Do you find it difficult?

  • To find appropriate Gateway fashion Unit Standards
  • To teach fashion when your Technology Teachers don’t have an industry background
  • Coordinating with training providers
  • To find industry assessors
  • That although the fashion industry is happy to support young people coming &into the fashion trade, most are too busy to be involved in formal training necessary to complete some unit standard assessments

How We Can Help

  • We have approval from the Apparel and Textile Industry Training Organisation (ATITO) to assist schools with Gateway
  • Three NZQA Unit Standards available at Level 2
  • Easy to follow teacher guides and marking schedules, student workbooks and accompanying material
  • Can be completed in class time at the students own pace – apart from the work experience component
  • Easy to fit around the students work load
  • We have industry assessors on staff
  • Buy packages for just one student or the whole class
  • Used successfully in schools throughout the country since 2008

STAR

The Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource - STAR - provides additional funds to all State secondary schools with year 11-13 students.

STAR helps boards of trustees, principals and schools to better meet the needs of students. It allows schools to assist their students smooth transition from school to further education and/or employment.

There is a focus on at-risk students intending to go straight into the workforce.

How We Can Help

NZ Fashion Tech is an accredited provider for the STAR programme.

As a result we are able to provide students access to opportunities and courses that they may not otherwise have access to.

Students can also gain qualifications ranked equally with other curriculum subjects.
